Birds
Drawing and painting birds will always be my first love whether in graphite, watercolour, acrylic or even biro!
My treatment of the feathers is somewhat abstract but the eyes do follow round the room!
Pink Robin from Australia. They really do exist!
I painted this after a Black Redstart spent some time in the garden at The Red Lion one cold winter's afternoon
Who can't resist a kingfisher? I did this in biro and coloured pencil.
I love mindful doodling and sometimes something fun results. The more you look the more you see.
I spent hours trying to get this right. In the end I just relaxed and threw lots of paint and water at it. I rather like the chaos. Apparently there are more Mandarin Ducks living and working in England than their native China.
Probably my favourite bird - I use it in my signature. This biro and crayon work now lives on a wall in Germany.
Just a bit of fun - my interpretation of a wooden carving I'd seen on Antiques Roadshow
I love watching birds, I'm lucky enough to get sparrows in the garden, even they are not as commonplace as they once were.
This is Sid, who along with Nancy raised 3 youngsters from a nest I can see from my studio. He frequently comes to the window and feeds from my hand.
I painted this kestral as one of the illustrations for "Underdog's Quest"
